Trade Support, Order Management Desk
Who I am
I spent the first 22 years of my life in Dublin, Ireland. Upon leaving school, I completed a certificate in marketing at the Dublin Institute of Technology before earning a degree in multimedia. The first two years of my studies were completed in Dublin and the latter two in Swansea, in South Wales.
After graduating, I spent some time backpacking and worked my way around Asia, Australia and New Zealand. I settled in Melbourne in 2005 and started my career in banking in corporate lending for St. George Bank (since merged with Westpac).
In 2009, I moved back to Dublin briefly (via South America) before hopping across the Irish Sea to London. I worked for a short period for Anglo Irish Bank before moving to Brown Shipley in April 2010.
What I do
As part of the Order Management Desk (OMD), I play a vital role in ensuring all orders placed by Brown Shipley are dealt with in a timely manner and at the best possible price. OMD also ensures that all orders are routed to the correct market to obtain the highest liquidity available.
Trade Support covers a wide range of activities, from changing commission on a trade to correcting dealing errors. Trade Support is the first point of contact for front-office executives when trade details need to be changed (commission, account number or number of units). Primarily, Trade Support ensures that all trades have been correctly booked.
What I think
Trade Support and OMD are vital cogs in ensuring our clients have their orders executed in a timely fashion and at a fair price. Effective communication is essential to what we do as we liaise with the front office, KBL epb and the UK Brokers – often under tight time constraints. Ultimately, it is a high-pressure but rewarding role that provides the opportunity to interact with a good cross-section of Brown Shipley & KBL epb staff.
